I came to London from Japan with the hope of experiencing life in a truly international and culturally diverse city.
Originally, I had planned to move into a flat shared with other Japanese people. But then I thought it would be a shame to come all the way to London and only surround myself with fellow Japanese. That’s when I visited Patricia’s home for a viewing. Despite my limited English and the frequent use of a translation app, she welcomed me with such warmth and patience. I’m deeply grateful for her kindness and support.
Everyone I’ve met in London has been incredibly kind. At local car boot sales especially, people treat you like a friend from the very first meeting, even if it’s your first time there. That openness has made a strong impression on me.
Currently, I run a small vintage clothing business here in London. Thanks to the support of my parents back in Japan, I was able to get started without too much trouble. However, one of the biggest challenges, as with any new business, has been attracting customers. Without a physical shop, I have to rely entirely on my own efforts to reach people. It’s only been two months so I keep reminding myself that it’s natural not to have everything go smoothly straight away, and I’m trying different approaches with an open mind.
My shop focuses mainly on Japanese designer brands. The reason is simple—I often see Japanese fashion labels featured in street style photos and on social media around the world. As a fashion enthusiast, I find that really exciting. What I particularly admire is how people overseas incorporate these brands into their own unique style, without being bound by the brand’s original image.
Through my shop, I hope to share the styles I love and invite others to make them part of their own individuality.
I look forward to connecting with many different people through fashion!
